A live-action big-screen adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist, the wildly popular manga and anime series, is reportedly hitting theaters in Japan in the summer of 2017.
According to IGN, the film adaptation will star Yamada Ryosuke as the iconic alchemist Edward Elric.
Polygon adds that filming will begin in Italy this June.The manga, written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa, ran from 2001 to 2010, and was given two TV series, both in anime.
The anime aired in the U.S. during Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block.
No word on a U.S. release for Fullmetal Alchemist. Ghost in the Shell, a film adaptation of the popular manga and anime film, will star Scarlett Johansson and be released in March 2017.
